Stop Frame Animation

Stop Frame work

This is the part of the project that I had the most fun doing. The first step of for my stop frame work was to design a suitable set for my stop frame flowers to grow in, it had to look good and very realistic to a real garden and I made sure of this by finding as many books as possible on how to design gardens. Books such as, the garden book by Author John Brookes   was very useful when working on the landscape lay out of the garden.

I used a cardboard box and lots of tester paints to get the basic look of my garden, and then I chopped up bamboo to create a bamboo fence all the way around my stop frame garden. I then dug up some grass from a real garden (mums lawn) and used it as the entire lawn in my stop frame garden. the next step  was to put soil going all around the grass,  next all I did was add some finishing touches to make it look more realistic, this consisted of adding a stone staircase and rockeries, I also added some tiny plant pots I managed to scrounge and a washing line to give it a more lived in appearance.

Secondly I started to work on my stop frame flowers; I created every stage of the flower growing before filming so it was easy to change the flowers over whilst filming and I didn’t risk knocking the camera too much and affecting the set. And even if it did get knocked it wouldn’t be too detrimental. after all stages of all the flowers growing had been completed I set up the camera ready to get my stop frame footage and then got filming my flowers growing in stages.

This process took me many attempts and a lot of editing to get my desired look, I am very happy with the final appearance of the stop frame flowers.
